See the Nominees @ the KPL
In honor of the 84th Academy Awards, which will be televised on Sunday, February 26, the Kearny Public Library would like to invite everyone to come see the nominees. For two weeks in February, we will show 4 nominated films. All films will be shown downstairs at the Main Library, located at 318 Kearny Ave. in Kearny, New Jersey. Popcorn & light refreshments will be served. Everyone is welcome, but please note the rating for each film. Start times for each are listed below. The schedule is as follows:

- A showing of the 1961 romantic comedy, Breakfast at Tiffany’s, starring Audrey Hepburn and George Peppard

There is no registration/signup needed. Books will be provided by the library but the library cannot reimburse for Kindle/Nook or individual purchases. Participants may attend one or both of the meetings, or attend the movie without participating in the book discussions/reading. The movie showing will begin at 6:20 p.m. on Wednesday, April 4. Friends of the Kearny NJ Library
The Friends of the Kearny New Jersey Free Public Library, Inc is a 501(c) (3) non- profit organization.
With a tax-deductible, $10 single, $15 family or $50 benefactor donation you can help us to grow. Members are not required to contribute volunteer hours or to attend meetings. Memberships paid in 2011 earned one entry for a $75.00 Barnes & Noble gift card in a random drawing held at the Main Library, 318 Kearny Avenue on January 18, 2012 at 2 p.m.

Membership donations enable us to do great things for our Library. Since 2008, together, we have;
- Donated over 600 new hardcover books to enhance our library’s collection
- Framed beautiful new artwork for our Branch Library.
- Held a local author signing and Earth Day event
- Held an essay contest for grades 5-8 with baseball tickets prize
- Held a logo artwork contest with Barnes & Noble gift card prize
- Donated new educational/science and storybook DVDs
- Donated audio storybook CDs
- Begun compiling a Kearny cookbook
- Manned four used book sales
- Run two successful fundraising events
- Launched our first book club
- Held story-hour for toddlers-grade 2
- Created educational, thematic book totes for beginning readers
- Reserved $5,000 to be donated to the new children’s reading garden at the Main Library

Museum Passes
The Kearny Public Library now has passes for the following museums:

The Eric Carle Museum of Picture Book Art (located in Amherst, MA.) * New*Kearny residents, who have library cards in good standing, can check out a pass for free visits to the Museums and return the pass the following day. There is no charge to reserve the pass; however, a $40.00 cash deposit is required for most museums when the pass is borrowed. The deposit is refunded when the pass is returned on time.

With your Kearny Library card, you can download audiobooks to your personal PC, laptop, or PDA or eBooks to most computers or your ebook reader ( such as the Sony Reader, Barnes and Noble nook, or Amazon Kindle.)
To check out eBooks and audiobooks, users need a valid Kearny Library card, computer or ebook device, and Internet connection. Once downloaded, digital media can be enjoyed on a computer and transferred to popular devices such as MP3 players, iPods®, Smartphones, and more. At the end of the lending period, titles automatically expire and are returned to the collection.

To renew your books online, click on Online Catalog (on the menu to the left) and log onto patron account using your library card number (no spaces) and password (call the library if you need more information about the password). Click on “items out” to see what you have checked out with their due dates. You may renew online.
