Michele LaRue will perform the classic story, “The Minister”

Michele LaRue, a professional actress with a touring repertoire of one-woman plays and short stories, will present a dramatic reading of a classic story on Tuesday, May 6, 2008 at 7:00p.m.at the Kearny Main Library at 318 Kearny Avenue.  Ms.LaRue will perform “The Minister” by Annie Hamilton Donnell. 

Michele LaRue has performed with the East Lynne Theatre Company, which specializes in American plays of the late 18th and early 19th centuries.  She has toured nationally with The Yellow Wallpaper” which has been performed at international conferences in Kentucky and Maine.  A member of the New Jersey Repertory Company, Ms. LaRue is a member of Actors’ Equity Association, Screen Actors Guild and AFTRA, the American Federation of Television and Radio Art.

All are invited to attend, free of charge, although seating is limited.   For more information, please call 201-998-2666.

Friends of the Kearny NJ Library

Applications for membership in the Friends of the Kearny NJ Library are available at the Kearny Main and Branch Libraries.  Meetings in 2008 will be held at the Kearny Branch Library at 759 Kearny Avenue on June 4 and November 5 at 7:00 p.m.

Please join us in support of our Kearny Free Public Library.

 

New hours for the Branch Library

As of February 4, 2008, the Kearny Branch Library, located at 759 Kearny Avenue, will be open the following hours:

Monday:          1:00 - 5:00 p.m.
Tuesday:         1:00 - 5:00 p.m.
Wednesday:   1:00 - 5:00 p.m.
Thursday:        1:00 - 5:00 p.m.
Friday:             1:00 - 5:00 p.m.

Verizon Walk for Literacy Grant

Kearny Public Library received a selection of English as a Second Language (ESL) and Adult Basic Literacy materials through the Verizon Walk for Literacy Grant which was sponsored by the NJ State Library and New Jersey Verizon.  The materials include a DVD called ABC Pronunciary and a selection of Penguin Readers of simplified texts with introductions.  These materials may be checked out for use at home.

 

The Kearny Public Library on The American Institute of Architects (AIA) list.

The Kearny Public Library is on The American Institute of Architects (AIA) list of "New Jersey's 150 Best Buildings and Places."  It is listed as Carnegie Library – Kearny (mistakenly listed as Essex County).
